Norse Mythology

In Old Norse, Vili means “Will''. Vili and Vé, together with Óðinn, are the three brothers who slew Ymir — ending the primeval rule of the race of giants — and are the first of the Æsir. Óðin is the eldest, Vili the middle, and Ve the youngest. To the first human couple, Ask and Embla, Óðinn gave soul and life; Vili gave wit (intelligence) and sense of touch; and Vé gave countenance (appearance, facial expression), speech, hearing, and sight.

Odin, Vili, and Ve were the first true Aesir gods to exist. Their parents were the proto-god Borr and the giantess Bestla. The three brothers slew the giant Ymir, the first being who had come into existence, and fashioned the cosmos from his corpse.

In the God of War Series

Prior to the Game

Vili was a grandson of Búri the first of the Aesir gods, who had sprung from Ymir, the first Giant and father of all life and one of the sons of Borr. Vili along with his elder brothers Odin and , felt that the Aesir were fit to be the supreme rulers of the Nine Realms and so Vili along with his brothers Odin and Vé killed Ymir and anyone else who stood in their path, with Odin himself taking the place of the "Allfather", after that, Ymir's blood drowned all Jötnar, except Bergelmir and his wife.

God of War (2018)

While not appearing in the game, he is mentioned by Mimir. He is mentioned in Ymir's Shrine where he along with his brothers are mentioned about slaying Ymir.

Powers and Abilities

  • Immortality: Vé, as a Norse God, is immortal, having lived for many millennia. Only a sufficiently powerful weapon or an extremely powerful being like can kill him.

Trivia

  • In the mythology, Vili along with his brother had an affair with Frigg when Odin left Asgard, it is unknown if he had an affair with Freya in the game.
  • Vili counterpart is like Poseidon since they both are the middle brothers.
