The Valkyrie Helmets are introduced in God of War (2018), they appear again in God of War Ragnarök and God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla. You receive them from defeating the Valkyries.
About[]
The Valkyries are optional bosses in God of War (2018), you can defeat each Valkyrie to unlock a special quest, retrieve their helmets and get special lore on them.
The High Council Quest[]
The favor automatically starts after defeating two Valkyries and you get 1800 XP (Per Helm).
Directions[]
Defeat two Valkyries to start this favor. See the favor, Prove Your Valor, to learn where to find all the Valkyries. When you are ready, head to The Mason's Channel and dock on the shore near the leftmost oarsman. Climb the nearby wall and make your way to the top, climb the small ledge and open the door, head down the path and lower the chain. Place all eight helms on the seats to complete the favor. Interacting with the Realm Tear that appears starts the God vs. Queen favor.
Defeating Gunnr[]
Entry Text[]
"Mistress of War. After any conflict, big or small, she would be first on the scene, sussing out the worthy spirits for a free trip to Valhalla. A gruesome task, but she took great pride in it. Her judgement of the fallen was unparalleled, and an invaluable resource to Odin. She was one of his favorites."

Valkyrie Gunnr is the very first Valkyrie that you may wish to fight, as you come across her Hidden Chamber soon after getting a piece of the giant Thamur's chisel during The Magic Chisel quest. She is the easiest of all the Valkyries to defeat, but also the one with the lesser rewards. The locked doorway to Gunnr is beside Thamur's hand. You can access the door soon after The Magic Chisel or come back later.
Attack's[]
Equip the Blades of Chaos and head straight for Gunnr if you have it already. As she opens her wings, unleash both Light and Heavy Runic Attacks against her one after the other. If you choose to battle her with only the Leviathan Axe available, make use of its Runic attacks here in the same manner. Gunnr is one of the few Valkyries who does not possess more than one unblockable attack. Most of her strikes against you will be ones you can easily parry or block. Gunnr will charge at you with her Scythe, indicated by the golden ring she'll have around her just before she moves in to strike you. Parry these attacks to leave her vulnerable. A variant of this attack will see her swing her Scythe around for a second strike, so be wary. A variant of the first attack type she has, Gunnr will rise up in the air and bring her Scythe down on you. She might unleash a secondary strike after the first isn't parried. If you manage to unleash a combo against her, she will try to use her wings in wide, angled sweep attacks. After the end of these, she may use her Scythe, which you can parry, or use a side stab against you which you cannot block. Evade to the right in this situation.
Defeating Kara[]
Entry Text[]

Kara's Hidden Chamber can be found in the lower levels of the Witch's Cave. This Valkyrie fight will be complicated not because of any additional attack patterns Kara has, but because she summons Draugr to help her. The Blades of Chaos is essential in this fight. Inside of the Witch's Cave, head to the lower caverns and cross the light bridge. Climb up the wall and the door will be right in front of you.
Attack's[]
It is critical that you attack first with your Light and Heavy Runic Attacks from either weapon. Kara will move out of the way once finished and summon Draugr to fight alongside her. Like most of her sisters, Kara has the ability to charge at you to strike in close with her Scythe. Parry this to momentarily leave her vulnerable for a Runic Attack or a quick combo. A variation of this attack will see her take to the air first before coming down for a strike. Kara will send sharpened feathers from her wings against you. It is wiser to dodge these and prepare for a parry, as she can use a charging Scythe attack following this one. She rarely uses this attack however. She will lift into the air and send rings that you cannot dodge and must block. A variation of this will be her sending an unblockable ring you must evade straight at you. Another common attack, she will use her wings to swipe at you from an angle. Even if you have some distance between you and her, she can close the gap quickly. Block these and assault her after she finishes, as she does not finish this attack with the unblockable Wing Stab her sisters utilize. When Kara first summons Draugr, use Hyperion Slam quickly while they're grouped together. Have Atreus deliver Runic Summons of Falcon's Dive to damage even Kara herself while you finish off the Draugr. Combine this with the use of your Leviathan Axe's Light and Heavy Runic Attacks, and you will have mopped the floor with the undead.
Defeating Geirdriful[]
Entry Text[]
"Master of Arms in Valhalla. Responsible for arming and training Odin's Einherjar. His army, come Ragnarok. The Einherjar wait in the great hall, endlessly feasting, drinking and fu— ahem uh... fornicating themselves silly. Once Ragnarok begins, Odin calls them into service to fight on his behalf. Geirdriful had her hands full, training that lot."

Location[]
On the way up The Mountain where you encounter an abundance of poisoned torches you can cover with the Leviathan Axe, you can find the Hidden Chamber to Geirdriful inside of a cave to the side of a door locked with the Winds of Hel. From the Foothills, where you can find Sindri's Shop outside, head to the trenches until you reach a door locked by the Winds of Hel. Enter the cave to the side and head into the Hidden Chambers.
Attack's[]
With the Blades of Chaos, immediately launch a salvo of Light and Runic Attacks. In the middle of each, have Atreus use his Runic Summon to continuously damage Geirdriful without her being able to move. If successful, you will have taken out nearly half of her health bar. Like Kara, she will shoot rings at you that you cannot dodge. Block these, and move out of the way of the variant of this attack which is an unblockable ring she throws straight at you. Using her wings, she'll send blade-like feathers at you. Dodge right, and look out for her unblockable wing stab where she dashes at you quickly after a salvo of feathers. Also dodge right to avoid this strike. When you see her lift up into the air where she spreads her arms wide, have Atreus quickly shoot arrows at her to prevent her from unleashing an unblockable strike that blinds you. It is critical that you prevent her from doing this, as you will be left extremely vulnerable to her advances while blinded. When you see Geirdriful fly for a few moments in the air, quickly evade away, as she will unleash an unblockable grab where she drags you along the ground, which causes massive damage. Geirdriful will take out her scythe and drag it along the ground, unleashing an unblockable wave. Evade out of the way. A regular Valkyrie attack, where she will swipe at you at an angle with her wings. Block these and move out of the way. A variant of this will be her moving in to strike you with her wings in a cyclone. These are blockable. Geirdriful likes to switch up her attacks, but her most common one is where she sends sharp feathers your way before going in for a wing stab. Although uncommon, her cyclonic wind swipes are also very deadly, as it leaves you extremely vulnerable. Save Atreus' arrows for when she attempts to use her unblockable blinding strike in the air. Make use of the Talisman of Realms about midway through the battle, and don't use your Berserker's Resurrection Stone for its Spartan Rage bonus until her health is about 2/3 depleted.
Defeating Olrun[]
Entry Text[]
"Once the daughter of a powerful chieftain, she fell defending him during a Reaver attack. Olrun was escorted to Valhalla, where she chose to devote her after-life to the pursuit of knowledge above all else. Quite unusual behavior amongst the constant drinking and feasting of her fellow Valhallian-denizens. Odin saw a kindred spirit in Olrun's single-minded pursuit of knowledge and appointed her as the Valkyrie's resident historian."

Olrun's Hidden Chamber can be found inside of a cave on the southwestern beach of the lake in the realm of Alfheim.
Attack's[]
Open with a combo of Light and Runic Attacks with either runes from the Blades of Chaos and the Leviathan Axe. Like other Valkyries, Olrun will use her wings to swipe at you either diagonally, or its variation where she spins in a cyclone. The wing swipe will usually lead into a wing stab after two swipes, so you must be prepared to evade right and strike back. An unblockable attack that she rarely performs, you must still be wary of this due to how fast she can get from where she jumps to where you are. She will crouch low before jumping straightening up into the air where she will then land on top of you to stomp on your head. Olrun is a relatively fast Valkyrie, a step or two below that of Geirdriful. You must pay attention to when she dashes away, as it can difficult to keep an eye on her to see what her next attack will be. Furthermore, her wing stab attack can be confused with that of her blockable wing slashes. Overall however, she is not a very difficult Valkyrie to defeat, particularly if you've managed to defeat Geirdriful.
Defeating Eir[]
Entry Text[]

Eir's Hidden Chamber is deep inside of The Mountain, where you take a cart up the mineshaft headed towards the top. The room is just to the side of the mines, just before the lift you take up the mountain during your second visit to the location. You'll find the Hidden Chamber's door off to the side of a broken down cart near the center of the mine.
Attack's[]
As usual, open with a Light and Heavy Runic attack as the Valkyrie opens its wings. Add Atreus' Runic Summon into mix. If you time each attack right, two to two and half bars of her health should be taken out. Although not really an attack, Eir will use her wings to guard herself. Take care not to strike these wings twice, as she can deliver a devastating counterattack against you. You can break this shield of hers with a runic attack or with your shield. As usual for most Valkyries, Eir will also possess the standard Valkyrie attack of swinging their wings at you at an angle. Another variant of this attack, the wing stab, is also present in this fight, even if she rarely uses it. When she swings her scythe while flying in the air, have Atreus quickly shoot her down to prevent her from being able to send an unblockable attack that you also cannot avoid. Eir will dash at you to deliver an unblockable attack. Dodge this, and block or dodge the secondary attack she unleashes with her mace. Eir is not a difficult Valkyrie to defeat. Her weakness lies in her slowness and defensive nature, which you can fully take advantage of with proper spacing in the arena you fight in and timely dodging as her attacks are powerful despite being slow. When she uses her wings to shield herself, this is when she is actually most vulnerable as a quick runic attack or shield bash will render her unable to defend herself for a while.
Defeating Göndul[]
Entry Text[]
"The sight of Göndul always took my breath away. Göndul had a silver tongue, a sharp wit, and struck a figure so stunning, it literally drove men insane. Odin forbid her from stepping foot in Midgard after a time, as insanity is not a welcome trait in Valhalla."

Attack's[]
Attack as she opens her wings with a flurry of Light and Heavy Runic Attacks. Have Atreus launch a salvo of his Runic Summon, preferably Wrath of the Wolf. While she is incapacitated, rush her and switch to your other weapon and launch all your Runic Attacks on that weapon. Göndul makes use of the standard Valkyrie attack patterns with her wings – an angular swing, a cyclonic attack, a wing stab, and even the sharp feathers. However, these attacks, apart from the feather strikes, are rarely used. Göndul instead makes use of attacks that take advantage of the wide arena you fight in. An unblockable strike that causes balls of fire to rain down from the sky in a straight line within the space between you and where she casts this attack from. Move away from these balls, and take care not to dodge into them when Göndul follows up with close in strikes. An unblockable attack where she rushes up into the air. The ground beneath you will boil in fire, but you must evade twice to avoid her eventual sudden slamming down into the ground where you are. Similar to Eir's attack where she will swing out her Scythe and wave it around, sending out an unblockable pulse. Have Atreus shoot arrows at her to prevent this. Again like Eir, Göndul will dash at you for a strike with her mace, followed up by a blockable follow through attack. Apart from the arena in Niflheim, the arena you fight Göndul is large enough to maneuver around very freely. Take advantage of this fact by dodging a lot, particularly since a lot of Göndul's strikes are ranged and unblockable. The few close-in strikes she has are attacks you must dodge, as otherwise they take out large chunks of your health.
Defeating Róta[]

Attack's[]
Unleash attacks with both Blast of Hephaestus and Hyperion Slam. Use Atreus' Runic Summon and switch to the Leviathan Axe . Once Róta moves away, at this time Atreus' Summons should reach her and render her defenseless for a while. Use the axe's runic attacks then. A standard Valkyrie attack with some of the more difficult Valkyries, this attack will see Róta rise up into the air and dash at you to drag you along the ground. This attack is unblockable, and she does this three times in a row – dodge all three and strike back. A standard ring attack that you can block. She doesn't perform the variation of this attack where she sends an unblockable ring straight at you. Róta employs many of the wing moves that you've encountered with other Valkyries. However, she performs some of these rarely, making much more frequent use of ring attacks, unblockable flight attacks, and jumping straight up to come crash back down on you instead. Róta will jump straight up into the air and crash on you. You must dodge as soon as she goes up to avoid getting caught, and dodge a second time as she repeats this attack in quick succession. Although not fast, Róta relies heavily on two of her aerial attacks to cause damage – one where she drags you along the ground if she catches you, and the other where she jumps up out of sight and lands on top of you. This is the fight where you must have at least beaten other Valkyries to get used to some of their more usual attack patterns. Ignorance to them will cause a defeat for you.
Defeating Hildr[]
Entry Text[]
"Mistress of Battle. She and Odin got on quite well, actually. Her and the other Valkyries... not so much. She would spent much of her time here in Midgard, observing discord between the living, and stirring some up herself from time to time. She lived for conflict. Some say she WAS conflict, personified. I wonder what will become of her, now that she's free."

Hildr can be found within the maze that is Ivaldi's Workshop in the realm of Niflheim. You can find the arena with her inside in one of the optional paths along the upper left portion of the diamond shaped maze. When you enter the maze, make a left from the first area. Head through the small area to the larger area. From there, take the only way out to the right. In the small area, take the left path to the Valkyrie. (Ivaldi's Workshop changes every time you exit and enter it. However, the path to Hildr remains the same.)
Attack's[]
As is usual, open up with Runic attacks against her as she opens her wings. However, even if you choose not to open the battle this way, Hildr is easy enough to defeat by learning her attack patterns without having to get in cheap shots. Hildr will charge at you with her Scythe. She will unleash a whirling attack, which she quickly follows up with another. Try to parry the first, and if you can't, evade. If you attempt to block the first, you'll be staggered and left vulnerable to the follow up attack. An unblockable strike where she drags her Scythe along the ground to send a wave at you. Evade this. The last of her attack types, Hildr will send a stream of Ice Shafts you can block your way, before delivering a final and unblockable one you must dodge. Overall, Hildr is not a difficult opponent to go up against, particularly if you save her battle for last amongst the 8 Valkyries you contend with on your way to Queen Sigrún herself. The most important thing to remember in this battle is to pay attention to the timer on top of your hud, as Ivaldi's Workshop will poison you if you're not careful. It's best to avoid the battles with grunts along the way to Hildr's arena. Lastly, Hildr possesses the same wing shield as the other Valkyries, and the unblockable wave Valkyries send while in the air.
Defeating Sigrún[]
Entry Text[]
"Queen of the Valkyries, although she does not appear to refer to herself as such. When Freya, the original Queen Valkyrie, lost her wings to Odin, Sigrún grudgingly took the position in her stead. Now she is free to reunite the Valkyries and attempt to stem the tide of the dead flowing into Midgard."
Entry in Ragnarök[]
Sigrún, the Valkyrie Queen, was the most lethal opponent Atreus and I faced in our prior adventures. Long ago, she was loved by Mimir, and clearly he remembers her warmly. But her utmost loyalty is to Freya, having aided her in restoring her warrior spirit and recovering her Valkyrie wings.

Queen Sigrún's arena is in the Council of Valkyries. She will only show up if you place all 8 helms of the other Valkyries on their thrones, which opens a portal that leads to a fight with her. Head towards the statues of the boatmen. To its left, you'll find a small beach. Dock on it. Climb up the wall to your right and follow the path until you get to two large doors. Head through the door and follow the path. Place all the 8 helms on the thrones. A portal will open at the center – interact with it.
Attack's[]
Unlike other Valkyries which are vulnerable as they open their wings, interacting with the portal will quickly unleash Sigrún on you in an attack you cannot defend against. This however, does not reduce your health. As soon as you are able, create some distance between the two of you. She will throw golden rings at you which you cannot dodge. Block these, and prepare for the eventuality that she may send an unblockable variant of this attack, which is a ring thrown directly at you that you must dodge. She will rise up into the air to send an unblockable wave against you. Have Atreus use his bow to stop this attack while she is in the air. Sigrún has the very same ice attack that Hildr has, where she sends shafts of ice against you. Block these and evade out of the way of the final shaft of ice, which is unblockable. She will use her wings in angular strikes. Block these and prepare to evade either a wing stab or a swing from her mace. She commonly uses a wing stab in conjunction with a quick dash towards you. Additionally, she can use her wings to shield herself from your attacks, or send bladed feathers your way. An unblockable strike where she jumps into the air and lands straight down on top of you. Evade this, and prepare for the possibility that she does this attack thrice in a row. Sigrún will charge at you with her scythe or mace which she quickly follows up with another strike. If you block the first strike, it will stagger you and leave you vulnerable to the second. Parry these, or evade as far away as you can so you can block or parry the second. Another unblockable attack where she rains down fireballs from the sky at you. Avoid these and avoid the hazard that's left behind where the fireballs land. She will drag her Scythe along the ground to send an unblockable wave your way you must avoid. Queen Sigrún will be the hardest Valkyrie you will fight, as she uses every little trick and attack pattern of the other Valkyries before her. It is utterly important that you dodge the unblockable attack she has where she jumps up in the air and lands on you, as it can take huge amount of your health away. It is recommended that you stay within a distance from her once you unleash a quick combo on her, and that you use Runic attacks liberally on her as they come, in conjunction with Runic summons from Atreus. Most of all, do not rush this battle as it will prove to be a quick end for you.
Defeating Vanadís[]
Entry Text[]
N/A
Location[]
Midgard.
Attack's[]
Upon defeating the Hel-Reavers, Kratos is attacked by a powerful Valkyrie known as Vanadís, who will have seven sectioned health bars you'll need to deplete. Defeating Vanadís will be no easy feat, and she will be among one of the most challenging enemies you've faced thus far. While it's a given, we recommend you continually move about the area. The more you move, the less likely Vanadís’ attacks will land. Also, given the size of the areas you’ll fight in, you must use the environment, such as the trees and rocks, to your advantage to block incoming attacks. Before we delve any deeper into the fight, keep in mind that this fight does have a checkpoint approximately halfway through, and you’ll likely only encounter one Healthstone during each battle phase. So, remember to protect yourself with well-timed blocks at all costs. Out the gate, Vanadís will have several possible attacks in her arsenal. The first attack you’ll likely encounter is Vanadís’ ranged attack, in which her hand will glow white and will shoot purple glowing arrows in your direction. While the attack can be blocked, it can also be parried; however, we advise against parrying these arrows as Vanadís will counter the parry and toss a powerful attack back in your direction that is somewhat hard to block. Although this attack will start with just two arrows, it'll eventually develop into a stronger attack that will see five arrows being shot your way at once. While this attack can be tricky to block in time, we found dodging at the right moment, just before they hit, will see you avoid any potential damage.
In addition, Vanadís will also gain falcon wings, which will allow her to back up quickly, out of melee range, when she becomes overwhelmed. When performing this, a follow-up attack will soon occur that sees her charging you before unleashing a powerful melee strike, which you can parry. On successful parries, Vanadís will be temporarily stunned for a few moments, making her vulnerable to attacks – now is a great time to unleash some quick flurries before backing up. Vanadís will perform three slightly different variations of the melee charge, each of which can be blocked and parried when timed correctly -- remember to use your shield strikes. You'll want to avoid staying within melee distance for too long, as Vanadís will perform an unlockable slam attack that sees her driving her sword into the ground, causing a small AoE shockwave. If you're within the AoE, you'll be dealt damage. It's crucial to note that Vanadís is very quick and will perform many of her attacks in quick succession, almost like a combo. So, after each attack, be ready for her to throw another right back at you. After depleting three health bars, a short cutscene will occur that sees Vanadís carrying Kratos through the air to the other side of his house – this will now act as a checkpoint. Upon landing, Kratos will now have the ability to replace his rage fury with Valor, which will heal rather than harm. Valor is especially useful during this phase of the fight, as your access to Healthstones will be greatly limited.
Now, during the second phase, all of the same tactics from phase one still apply; however, you will need to account for a new attack, which sees Vanadís tossing five unblockable pools of poison onto the ground. You'll want to avoid these pools at all costs; otherwise, you'll be dealt damage for as long as you're standing in them. With that said, apart from introducing the new attack, the battle will remain mostly the same until you deplete Vanadís to one health bar. You'll then enter a lengthy cutscene that reveals Vanadís’ true identity.
Defeating Hrist[]
Entry Text[]
"To fight two Valkyries in tandem is to face both the sea and the sky as they crash down as one. Their coordination is battle was unmatched. It is a pity their fealty to Odin is by choice, and not a corruption abated by their death. I would always prefer a Valkyrie fight on my side. Their aim was to take the mask back to Odin and perhaps Atreus with it. I hope news of their demise travels swiftly to Asgard."

Attack's[]
She and Mist were later sent by Odin to the Spark of the World to kill Kratos, possibly capture Atreus, and retrieve the mask as the two waited for Surtr to become Ragnarök. The two Valkyrie sisters ambushed the duo and proceeded to engage them in a ferocious battle. Eventually, Hrist and her sister managed to subdue Kratos, but Atreus leapt atop Mist's back, rendering her unable to aid her sister. The Spartan and his son proceeded to give into their rage, allowing them to break free. Atreus, having transformed into a bear, overpowered Hrist and tore her left wing off before savagely tearing her in two, killing her.

Defeating Gná[]
Entry Text[]
"Odin's final Valkyrie Queen. At one time, she was Freya's handmaiden, friend, and trusted confidant. Mimir has called her a "traitor" but it was clear that she was the one betrayed. Freya has spoken highly of her ambition, her conviction, and her unyielding loyalty. These would be admirable qualities of a warrior-yet in the end, her loyalty proved misplaced in Odin, even after his defeat. She met her end with dignity, though Freya took no satisfaction in delivering it."

Location[]
After you have completed the Main Story of God of War Ragnarok, you will begin a Post Game exploration known as the Epilogue, and several new features and quests will be unlocked. One of these is a new task to find and eliminate the Remnants of Asgard, with Aesir enemies appearing across many of the realms. As you defeat these enemies, you may find Lore Scrolls carried by the Aesir, handed out by the Valkyrie Queen Gná - and one of them will mention that she intends to regroup and fortify in a temporary base in Muspelheim. However, you do not technically need to find this note to unlock the quest. Travel to Muspelheim and visit the Crucible, and you should now be able to spot a small gap under a large wall on the south side of the large central arena. After crawling under, look down to spot several marks in the wall above the lava that you can latch onto using the Blades of Chaos, leading to a large platform with a campsite and a journal. Before Kratos can inspect the journal, the Valkyrie Queen Gná - commander of Odin's remaining forces - will ambush you, and goad you into battle. Note that she will wait patiently for you to approach or make the first strike - giving you time to retreat if you are not ready, and you should take this time to make sure you are absolutely ready for what is without a doubt the toughest fight in God of War Ragnarok.
Attack's[]
An important thing to know is that Valkyrie Queen Gná's difficulty stems in large part that you will not have the benefit of gradually learning her different moves unlike the progression of Berserker fights leading to King Hrolf Kraki. If you remember fighting Valkyrie Queen Sigrún in the previous game, you might be a little better prepared, but it will be an incredible challenge regardless. More than any other fight, Gná is wildly unpredictable, and is able to utilize several different openings and follow-ups to a lot of her moves. What might be a standard wide attack the first time can easily become an unblockable jab the next, and you'll need to watch her movement carefully to react the instant you can spot different movements or warnings. Any attack she lands can deal a ton of damage, and also has not one but two unblockable grabs that can quickly kill you. While she will gain Runic Armor often, rendering her immune to staggering from Runic Attacks, she is quite susceptible be getting staggered from other hits, and sometimes you may find that being aggressive in pressing your attack can keep her from setting up her next move - as she is much more deadly and unpredictable after backing off than you might think. If timed well, you can often power through spots where she begins to charge an unblockable hit, or prepares a blue-ring area of effect strike by chaining together moves and Runic Attacks, or keeping her locked in place with Realm Shifts.
As soon as you begin the fight (You may as well toss a charged Leviathan Axe or Draupnir Spear), she'll always begin with the same mixup of opening ranged moves. She'll often begin by laying down a straight line of Bifrost shards from above. The projectiles are decently sized and easily dodged to the sides - but more importantly, they'll leave behind smoldering craters that emanate more Bifrost if you get close. This may not seem like a big deal, but after a bit of fighting she can often end up backing off through the hazards, goading you into pursuing and taking more and more Bifrost damage that she can explode your health bar with. Try to keep your back to the Bifrost so she can't dart past it, and if she does, hold off on pursuing and let her come back to you. She'll also tend to fight at range with a multitude of different wing projectiles that come in two distinct forms that can be hard to differentiate at first. The first will comes out at a very wide arc to try and hit you from the sides - and you can spot it as she dodges slightly to the side to emit each attack. The good news is the attack is easily blocked - but the projectiles are infused with Bifrost, meaning you're health bar will be slightly impacted, but it can usually be quickly cleansed. The second variation comes out straight ahead instead of at a wide angle (to which she'll crouch down instead of pivoting to the side), and this one is unblockable. It moves much faster, though a single side step is enough to get out of the way. The real problem is figuring out in that split second if you need to dodge to the side or block, as dodging into the wide sweeping projectiles will often hit you before you can correct your mistake. They regular wings can be dodged by an inwards roll, but it may be risky if you're not sure if the faster unblockable variant comes out instead.
Following these comes one of Gná's more painful and annoying attacks - she'll swoop to one side before charging forth to strike in one of two different but equally annoying methods: A straight unblockable jab with her wing tip, or a series of wing attacks followed by a deadly spin. Because the charge looks pretty identical, it's easy to panic and try to block the jab or sidestep the wing strike and get caught in a combo. However, there is one key trick to figuring out which move is coming. If Gná dashes to your left, she will always charge in for a two-hit (but blockable) wing sweep ending in a rapid spin attack that you need to also block. If she dashes to your right, she will always end her charge in a jab with her right wing, which you can always sidestep and punish by evading to your right (never left). As long as you keep this in mind, you can routinely avoid the headache of one of her more annoying moves. Be wary, as she may sometimes opt to follow up her two-wing strike with the unblockable right wing jab anyway, but you'll at least have a bit more time to react, and strafing to you right while blocking can help too. While not as often, there is a chance Gná will forego the usual dodge to the side before a dash and simply charge at you head on, and will often follow up by conjuring a giant flaming mace for an overhead unblockable strike. The wind up is slow, allowing you to dodge behind her to counter the attack after she misses. There still is one caveat to remember, as Gna will often immediately chain from her wing spin attack into any number of other moves she has at her disposal - from unblockable glaives to jumping staggering slams. Because of this, you should only try to fight back against the unblockable jab as there will be a long opening for you, but rarely for her regular wing sweep attacks (which are also difficult to parry).
Watch our for when Gná pulls out her glaives, as she can use them in a variety ways. After summoning them in each hand, she'll usually attack with a quick two hits, ending in an either a third overhead attack, or a jumping unblockable throw at close range. You can sometimes stop the combo with a well timed parry, but should otherwise dodge to the side and counter with a quick Runic Attack if possible. She can also imbue the glaives with random elemental energy and throw them out to spin around her in a move that cannot be blocked. This is one of her main methods of using status effects, as they can hit you with fire, frost, poison, or bifrost, and in all the fighting it can be hard to remember where they are spinning. Luckily, if she does this at range, you usually have a few moments before her next attack to quickly destroy the spinning glaives with ranged attacks, as they don't move all that fast - a well timed Draupnir Spear or axe toss can get rid of them, letting you dive back into the fight without worry. Valkryie Queen Gná also has two extremely annoying grab attacks that can come with little warning, and can sometimes try to lull into getting caught. The moment you hear her cry "For Asgard!" and fly up into the air, immediately stop and dodge backwards. She'll land very fast with wings spread before her trying to slam you into the ground - and if caught will do a ton of damage before Freya can help shake her off. Even worse, Gná will often try to chain this move together up to three times! Until she drops down three times, (yelling each time), do not try to punish the attack, or you'll risk running right into her trap - even if she ends chain early, it's better to play it safe. The only time you can safely get a hit in is if you have the Armor of Radiance - at which point a successful Realm Shift should let you charge in for a strike, but then you should back off to wait and see if she leaps again.
Another grab can happen if she charges at you yelling "Submit!". It's a straight dash grab, and will knock you into the air and send you flying back for significant damage if caught. Like the other grab, it's entirely possible she'll double back for a second dash if she misses the first, so avoid trying to punish the first attempt just to be safe! Still, stay somewhat close to be ready for whichever move comes next. The reason for this is due to a blue ring move she can perform at range - often when you are at mid-distance away. She'll leap up and call out "Asgard's blood is on you!" as a giant electrical area of effect builds across most of the arena. You won't have long to dash in and shield bash her out of it, and if she's cornered you, running out of the circle won't be an option. The good news is that if you're worried you may not close the distance in time, certain Runic Attacks - especially the Huldra Charge, can not only close the distance but interrupt the attack in the process. Another Blue Ring attack is actually Gná's defensive wing shield, which you may recognize from the previous game. She'll block all incoming standard blows and fan out her wings in a devastating attack unless you switch tactics and bash with your shield - or use a Runic Attack that can pierce her guard. A unique attack used only by Gná comes in two forms, and one that can deal a ton of damage if you aren't ready to immediately counter it - with Freya's arrows. She'll summon either a giant flaming sigil or huge sound stone and hurl it at you, giving you only moments to spot which magic it is and have Freya take the shot. If you hear Gná yell "Rise, rise!" while flying up into the air, prep a sonic arrow to fire. If she yells "Bathe in fire!", swap to a sigil arrow and have Freya take aim at the hex.
If you have the right arrow lined up, be sure to charge forth to follow up right as Freya stuns them, as it's a great chance to unload some major damage and continue to stagger her with several attacks. If you've unlocked Freya's skills, you should be able to press square to have Freya dash in for a follow up strike while Gná is stunned. At mid-range, watch for Gná to swoop into the air and perform a dive kick in your direction, often yelling "Kneel!". The first one can often be parried to stagger her, but if not, be wary of a single or direct follow-up dive kick that's unblockable and imbued with a frost splash. Dodging backwards will still freeze you, so go to the sides and retaliate. Beyond these moves, she can also mix things up with a jumping staggering slam attack (its shockwave will do a ton of damage if you don't parry it as she lands), or a staggering charge attack with her halberd that can strike three times (including a jumping bi-frost finisher) that all have yellow rings and need to be timed perfectly to parry, but wait until her final slam to fire back with your own moves. Prepare to spend many attempts just learning her moves - which ones you can avoid and how, and which ones you can punish. She gains Runic Armor a lot, and knowing when to unload your Runic Attacks and when to save them can be a big help, as can pressing your attack when you've got her cornered and staggered. Moves like Hades Retribution can be great to ensure she gets constantly staggered, and attacks like Leviathan's Roar are essential for dealing damage without worry of getting hit.
If you have several types of gear that can activate Realm Shifting, we highly recommend chaining them together to keep the slowdown going to deal a ton of uninterruptible damage over a short period. For example, you can try dodging the final hit in a combo attack to gain Realm Shift from the Armor of Radiance, then unleash a Runic Attack and trigger the Hilt of Hofud to gain even more time, unleash a combo of hits with a weapon that has a weapon attachment of the Nine Realms, and trigger it once you've built up Permafrost/Maelstrom from your combo, and deal even more damage while still slowed down. With enough practice and maybe a bit of luck that she won't constantly surprise you with unblockable moves when you least expect them, you'll eventually be able to get her health down all the way. Don't get overconfident, as she can always unleash a deadly move when you least expect, so wait until that final stun indicator appears over her before moving in to defeat her. After the cutscene ends, the Valkyrie Queen Gná will be no more, and Freya will earn both The Queen's Armor and The Queen's Roar, a fantastic Summon. You'll also get a neat item, the Rond of Obliteration, which can charge up projectiles to shoot out at your enemies. You can also pick up the journal Kratos originally tried to take when you first arrived here.
