Vali The Oath Guard is an optional boss introduced in God of War: Ragnarök. He is an Oath Guard and Traveler and was a former brother of Birgir.

Description[]

Vali is an oath guard as well as a blind follower of The Path, a religious warrior's code, and believes that glorious fortune and enlightenment awaits him in the realm of the Jötnar, Jötunheim. He and his fellow brothers were begged by their brother Birgir to abandon The Path, due to realizing the truth behind the code. However, they never abandoned it and proceeded to label their brother as a heretic. As a result, while Birgir became a strong ally of the Vanir, Vali and his fellow oath guards continued to follow The Path, refusing to accept that it is only a trick for Odin to send in soldiers to Jötunheim.

The armor that Vali wears, along with his weapon and abilities, is identical to that of the Hel-Traveler. While the skin of the Hel-Travelers are always ice blue skin and they have eyes of the same color akin to normal Hel-Walkers, Vali has normal human skin and eyes, showing that he is more mortal rather than undead.

Location[]

Vali ambushes Kratos when approaching a coffin cache on the other side of Vanaheim crater.

He drops the Blind Guest lore scroll and the Hilt of Hrotti on defeat.

Valhalla[]

Travelers. As inescapable in Valhalla as they were across the realms. Vale was one of the three who ignored Birgir's plea to reject the lies Odin told them. If you remember, Odin promised them a "paradise" in exchange for their loyalty. Valhalla does not seem a "paradise" to me... but if this is where they came in death, I hope they fought their way to wisdom, as I seek to.
