The Tributes to Freyr are a set of artefacts found in God of War Ragnarök.

Background[]

Long ago, a Jötunn named Gerð came to Vanaheim, offering to teach the Vanir how to travel between realms using Bifröst light. The Vanir god Freyr always yearned to travel, so he immediately took Gerð up on her offer, exploring the entire World Tree together. Eventually, Gerð had to leave, and Freyr was devastated by her departure.

To try and win her back, he went on a trip to discover the source of Bifröst light. He succeeded, managing to wander from the World Tree into the Lake of Souls in Alfheim. Being the first person to ever emerge from the Lake, the Elves were amazed, but Freyr didn't stay for long. Eventually, he returned to Alfheim while the Light and Dark elves were at war with each other. He was able to forge a truce between both sides, because of the respect and trust they held for him.

Unfortunately, the peace didn't last, as Freyr had to leave Alheim again, this time to protest Odin & Freya's wedding. Still, the Elves remembered Freyr and held him in high esteem for generations. Kratos and company would even come across trinkets from that time, during their visits to Alfheim post-Fimbulwinter.
