Chains of Olympus

During Kratos' journey throughout the Underworld in God of War: Chains of Olympus, he comes across the Tree of the Dead. It can only be found in front of the Gates of Hades in Asphodel. This large, lifeless tree is surrounded by chains, each holding a dead body of some unfortunate soul who died attemting to breach the Gates of Hades.

Hades used this tree to most likely ward off living souls wishing to pass through the gate. The Tree of the Dead resembles the Forsaken Tree, but the fruit is replaced by a more grusome item.
