In God of War Ragnarök, Birgir, previously a Traveler, is a key figure. He defected from Odin's path after uncovering its falsehoods, aligning with Vanaheim instead, leading his fellow Travelers to deem him a heretic. Birgir supports the Vanir Gods in their resistance against the Aesir. His decision to abandon The Path, a warrior's code, caused division among his former brothers, who remained devoted followers.

Description[]

In addition to their brute strength, thick armor and large weaponry, they also wield some Seiðr magic. They have equally giant swords and sometimes shields whose block cannot be broken. They are very strong and tough to take down due to their armor unless shattered with repeated strikes, but offer great rewards to assist with armor crafting.

Traveler[]

Codex (2018)[]

They wear really strong armor, have huge swords, and are one of the toughest enemies we've faced. Who are they, what do they want with us? Mother never mentioned the Travelers. I hope we don't have to fight too many of them.

God of War Ragnarök[]

Travelers are zealous worshippers who follow The Path, a mysterious warrior's code that promises glorious fortune and enlightenment awaiting them in Jötunheim. Little do they know that The Path is simply an invention of Odin's in order to trick a large number of warriors into finding a way into the home of the Giants. they're as strong as their devout, and should never be taken lightly.

Traveler Champion[]

Codex (2018)[]

This Traveler has a huge shield on his back, which makes breaking through his extremely tough armor even tougher.

God of War Ragnarök[]

These Travelers prioritize the use of shields when it comes to their combat style of choice. Makes hitting them quite a bit more difficult than the given surface area would suggest. What qualifications are there in order to become a champion in the Travelers' eyes? I doubt it's as simple as shield proficiency.

Hel-Traveler[]

Codex (2018)[]

I don't think Travelers could get any worse, but it looks like death wasn't enough to keep this one down. In fact it's even MORE aggressive than the other Travelers we've seen. I guess even Travelers can be Hel-Walkers.

God of War Ragnarök[]

A Traveler who continued to follow Odin's phony "path" even in death. Fat lot of good that did him.

Types of Traveler[]

Travelers come in a variety of different classes:

  • Traveler
  • Traveler Champion
  • Hel-Traveler

Trivia []

  • Travelers are equivalent to Armored Cyclops, Centaur General, Fates Juggernaut and Hades Juggernaut from the previous games, they are heavily armored, very strong, and tough.
  • As the name and armor styling implies, Travelers could be foreign in nature, possibly from Western Europe.
    • Traveler's armor is very similar to the armor of a Medieval Knight.
  • Defeating them will reward Kratos with traveler's armor shard and traveler's grisly trophy.
    • The latter one, when viewed from the menu, will have a description that said "A severed piece of a Traveler's defeated foe, kept as a totem of Asgardian magic", possibly indicating that the travelers originate from Asgard or at least a follower of the Aesir.
  • On the Traveler Champion's shield reads ᚢᚾᛒᚱᛖᚨᚲᚨᛒᛚᛖ, literally meaning unbreakable.
  • According to a reddit user, the runes on the Travelers' swords read "Leita aþ uti heims", which translates to "Looking for home/looking for world" in English.
  • The Hel-Traveler is nearly identical in comparison to Ser Gregor Clegane (or The Mountain) from Game of Thrones as both of their bodies are completely covered in full-body armor and their soulless eyes are visible through their helmets. Additionally, due to their size and height, they tower over their enemies.
