Get away from my children. Have you any idea how long it took to shape their spirits into something useful? Have you any idea of the EFFORT? The FOCUS? Were it not for me, these misbegotten urchins would have perished in the winds of Fimbulwinter. But instead? They became something greater. Something magnificent. They MATTERED to the All-Father...and they mattered to ME.

–The Raven Keeper to Kratos

The Raven Keeper was a minor antagonist in God of War Ragnarök. She was Odin's trusted acolyte and was responsible for creating the Mystical Ravens that were sent as spies throughout the Nine Realms.

Biography[]

For centuries, the Raven Keeper had been a loyal acolyte of Odin. She was responsible for creating the Eyes of Odin, who unwillingly act as Odin's spies throughout the Nine Realms. She created these mystical ravens from the souls of children, who were sacrificed by their parents, via hanging, in Odin's name.

Because she created these mystical ravens, she deluded herself into believing that they are her "children". In their current state, they supposedly matter to her. This is due to the great importance they serve for the All-father and herself. The Raven Keeper made it very clear that she would do everything and anything in her power to prevent these trapped souls from escaping to their freedom. This also terrified and further traumatized the deceased children.

God of War (2018)[]

While she is absent throughout the entire game, four scrolls written by her can be found scattered throughout Midgard while only one can be found in Odin's study in Tyr's temple.

God of War Ragnarök[]

The Raven Keeper makes her only appearance in Niflheim during The Eyes of Odin favor. After unlocking and opening all the chests that were at the base of the Raven Tree, this will cause the Raven Keeper to appear and she will lash out at Kratos and Atreus/Freya for undoing all of her efforts and her hard work. She will then flee to a small battle arena where she engages the duo in combat. She will eventually be killed during the fight. When they returned to the raven tree, all the ravens that were freed expressed their gratitude towards Kratos and Atreus/Freya.

Appearance[]

The Raven Keeper appears as an older woman with a hunched back. Her skin looks worn and she wears a wooden mask that partially covers her face, just barely you can see her eyes which appear faintly blue and lifeless. She has large, red, branching antlers-like protrusions extending from her head. Her face is obscured by a hooded garment, with a visible area of a skeletal/pale face beneath.  Large, glowing yellow/orange circular eyes are prominent on the hood, the hood itself looks like it was intentionally designed to look like an animal. Her body is draped in a long, flowing garment, a mix of deep indigo/blue and faded, blood-red/crimson colors. The fabric appears tattered and worn, with the red areas looking as if they are painted or stained into the cloth. The cloth has stylized, seemingly decorative patterns of lines and shapes and the fabric appears layered with some rough edges, giving her a weathered and possibly battle-worn look.  Several red bands or wrappings, like bandages or rope, are visible on her arms and torso. Her hands appear gaunt and she can be seen holding a long, slender staff, the staff is dark and wooden. The staff is detailed, with rope-like accents and wood-grain patterns visible. Her skin is a pale, icy blue-gray. Red, and crimson-toned strands of hair/fabric cascade down from the head area. When her mouth is visible she appears to be missing most of her teeth.
