The Marked Warrior is a prophecy within the God of War Series. It tells of the end of Olympus not being by the hands of the Titans, but by the hands of a mortal with a distinctive mark on his body.

God of War Series

God of War: Ghost of Sparta

In the city of Sparta, two of the Gods, Ares and Athena, had raided the city in the hopes of capturing the brother of Kratos, Deimos, who had been susceptible to being the Marked Warrior due to his strange birthmarks. After Deimos was captured, his brother, Kratos, had vowed never to falter again. In honor of Deimos, Kratos had adorned a tattoo on his skin, made in the exact image of Deimos' birthmark. Later on in the game, the God of Death, Thanatos, had deduced that the Marked Warrior was not Deimos, but was, in fact, Kratos. After the death of both Deimos and Thanatos, the enigmatic Grave Digger (Zeus) had discovered that Kratos was the true Marked Warrior.

God of War II

With this in mind, Zeus, the king of the Gods, had decided to kill Kratos, his own son, in order for both the prophecy and the cycle of son killing father to end. After killing Kratos, Kratos had returned from the dead in order to kill Zeus, thus initiating the prophecy's fulfillment. After accidentally killing Athena, and discovering that he is Zeus' son, and the fact that many Gods will protect Zeus, Kratos had decided to destroy any God attempting to end his quest for vengeance. In an alliance with the Titans, Kratos had waged war on Olympus.

God of War III

The prophecy came full circle in the third game, with Kratos claiming the brother of Zeus, Poseidon, as his first victim. As the game progresses, Kratos kills more and more Gods such as Hera, Hermes, Helios, and Hades, just to name a few. Kratos also targeted the death of the Titans after being betrayed by Gaia. As Kratos kills God after God, the world becomes severely weakened by Plagues originated from the death of the Gods. In a final encounter with Zeus, Kratos was finally able to kill the king of the Gods, thus plummeting the world into Chaos. With the end of Olympus, the prophecy had been fulfilled.
