Thamur's Corpse is a location only accessible in God of War (2018) throughout the entire Norse era.
In accordance with its name, it is the gargantuan dead body of the Jötunn stonemason Thamur, who was killed by the God of Thunder Thor before falling upon a village that is known for worshipping the Vanir sea God Njörd.
History[]
Prior to its destruction, the village that would be destroyed by Thamur, was called Njördholm, which is named after Njörd, a Vanir God who was worshipped by the inhabitants of said village. It was even said that Njörd himself would even visit and feast with the villagers living there.
When the stonemason Thamur arrived in Midgard, as he was searching for his son Hrimthur, he encountered Thor, who then attacked, and Thamur was killed by his own chisel, which went straight through his own skull. As he fell, Thamur inadvertently destroyed the village. Its survivors were soon frozen to death when he let out his last breath. As Thamur is a frost Jötunn, his dying breath had made the entire land a frozen and uninhabitable landscape. Thor took credit for both the destruction of the village and the giant's death, though Mimir would note that the "sweaty bawbag" just got lucky.
As of now, Thamur's corpse lay where he died and the village that was destroyed was never rebuilt and it continued to remain abandoned. In addition, the frozen land became Thamur's final resting place, which would stay like that in the years to come.
God of War (2018)[]
As a tip of Thamur's chisel was needed to open the secret gate to Jötunheim on Midgard's highest peak, Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir travelled to Thamur's Corpse. During the boat ride there, Mimir told the story of Thamur and the village. Upon arriving at their destination, they saw the giant's corpse still in its spot and perfectly preserved. Discovering that the chisel tip was buried under a thick layer of ice, Kratos and Atreus, after some struggle, broke the ice with Thamur's hammer. However, this got the attention of Magni and Modi, the sons of Thor, who were sent to aid their half-uncle Baldur in finding the Spartan and his son. When Kratos and Atreus reached the chisel tip, they were intercepted by Magni and Modi and a fight ensued. During the battle, Kratos slew Magni, which forced Modi to flee.
Much later, after the duo retrieved Mimir's missing eye from Jörmungandr's stomach, the latter was soon attacked by Baldur, which caused the World Serpent to spit out Kratos and Atreus, causing the duo to land at Thamur's corpse. When a fight broke out between the two and Baldur, the Vanir Goddess Freya, who is Baldur's mother, used her magic to control Thamur's body in an attempt to stop Kratos and Atreus from killing her son. This failed, however, when Atreus called out to Jörmungandr in a dead tongue, causing the world serpent to attack Thamur's corpse. Throughout the rest of the game, ever since Baldur's death and the finishing of the main storyline, much of Thamur's corpse is now inaccessible, as the back of Thamur's right hand is now blocking the path.
