Thamur's Corpse is a location only accessible in God of War (2018) throughout the entire Norse saga.
In accordance with its name, it is the gargantuan dead body of the Jötunn stonemason Thamur, who was killed by the God of Thunder Thor before falling upon a village that is known for worshipping the Vanir sea God Njörd.
History[]
Prior to its destruction, the village that would be destroyed by Thamur, was called Njördholm, named after the Vanir God worshipped by the inhabitants of said village. It was even said that Njörd himself would even visit and feast with the villagers living there.
When the giant stonemason Thamur arrived in Midgard to search for his son Hrimthur, he unexpectedly encountered Thor, who then attacked. When he fell, Thamur inadvertently crushed the village, and was impaled through the brain by his own chisel. As Thamur was a frost Jötunn, his dying breath froze any surviving villagers, and the entire nearby landscape. Thor took credit for both the destruction of the village and the giant's death, though Mimir would note that the "sweaty bawbag" just got lucky.
To this day, Thamur's corpse hasn't moved an inch, the destroyed village was never rebuilt and the land remains abandoned. Now known as the stonemason's final resting place, the land would stay this way for the forseeable future.
God of War (2018)[]
As a tip of Thamur's chisel was needed to open the secret gate to Jötunheim on Midgard's highest peak, Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir travelled to Thamur's Corpse. During the boat ride there, Mimir told the story of Thamur and the village. Upon arriving at their destination, they saw the giant's corpse still in its spot and perfectly preserved. Discovering that the chisel tip was buried under a thick layer of ice, Kratos and Atreus, after some struggle, broke the ice with Thamur's hammer. However, this got the attention of Magni and Modi, the sons of Thor, who were sent to aid their half-uncle Baldur in finding the Spartan and his son. When Kratos and Atreus reached the chisel tip, they were intercepted by Magni and Modi and a fight ensued. During the battle, Kratos slew Magni, which forced Modi to flee.
Much later, after the duo retrieved Mimir's missing eye from Jörmungandr's stomach, the latter was soon attacked by Baldur, which caused the World Serpent to spit out Kratos and Atreus, causing them to land at Thamur's corpse. When a fight broke out between the two and Baldur, his mother, the Vanir Goddess Freya, used her magic to pilot Thamur's body, in an attempt to protect her son. This failed, however, when Atreus called out to Jörmungandr in a dead tongue, causing the world serpent to attack Thamur's corpse. Since Baldur's death, much of what lay past Thamur's corpse is now inaccessible, as the back of his right hand now blocks the path.
God of War: Ragnarök[]
2 years later after Baldur’s death, Thamur’s corpse in nowhere to be seen. After Jörmungandr attacked him by biting his head, players speculated that he got eaten by the latter or, because of Fimbulwinter, his corpse is completely covered in snow. But since then, no news from Thamur’s corpse, it is more logic that his body is covered in snow and that his head is in a bad state due to the World Serpent.
