Hrómundr the Cruel and Vöttr the Prideful, known together as the Sisters of Illska, are two of the twelve Berserkers that can be fought as an optional boss in God of War Ragnarök. Fighting them will also require to fight Svipdagr the Cold. The Sisters, along with Svipdagr, can be found in Alfheim.
Norse Tradition[]
In Hrólfr Kraki's saga, Hrómundr harði and Vöttr inn mikilaflaði were two of the twelve berserkers who served King Hrólf Kraki.
Biography[]
Early life[]
In her early life, Vöttr was a travelling skald, which led to her ability to move quickly. It is unclear what Hrómundr’s early life was like, however.
Using magic that she had learned, Vottr could combine this with her ability to move quickly to attack in full force.
Hrómundr and Vöttr were warriors in the Midgardian kingdom of Lejre who served under Hrólf Kraki, along with ten fellow berserkers. They participated in Hrólf's seizure of the crown, where they earned the epithets "the Cruel" and "the Prideful", respectively; together as "the Sisters of Illska". Hromundr earned the epithet “the Cruel” during the Last Stand of Dolfdun, where, even though King Kraki’s opponents declared defeat, Hromundr used only her magic to perform a Blood Eagle-styled execution on the surviving general. Upon their deaths, Hrómundr and Vöttr's spirits went onto inhabit the Hilt of Skofnung.
God of War Ragnarok[]
Kratos defeated Hrómundr and Vöttr's spirits and channeled their powers through Skofnung.
Appearance[]
Like all Berserkers, the Sisters of Illska are skeletons glowing with green spectral energy. The Sisters both wear both blue hooded cloaks over blue lamellar armor. Unlike other Berserkers, they wield no weapons, using ice and fire magic instead.
Descriptions[]
"I am told Vöttr was one of King Hrólf's favorite Berserkers. Her early life as a travelling Rhapsode, as she would be called in Greece, led to her ability to move swiftly but attack in full force with her destructive magic. People of many talents should rightfully be feared, but she will be feared no longer."
"Mimir tells me Hrómundr the Cruel received her name from one particular battle. The Last Stand of Dolfdun during which King Hrólf's opponents declared defeat. Hrómundr, using only her magic, then performed a "Blood Eagle" on the surviving general. I am familiar with this method of execution, but have not yet heard of magic used to enact it. The prospect is vile and unnecessary."
