Ghost of Sparta (4)

Kratos fighting Scylla.

Scylla is a new beast that Kratos meets on his journey to Atlantis. Summoned by Poseidon, she destroys everything in her path using her tentacles and arms, whilst also releasing small offspring to do the same.

Greek Mythology

In Greek mythology, Scylla (pronounced /ˈsɪlə/, sil-uh; Greek: Σκύλλα, Skulla) was a monster that lived on one side of a narrow channel of water, opposite its counterpart Charybdis. The two sides of the strait were within an arrow's range of each other—so close that sailors attempting to avoid Charybdis would pass too close to Scylla and vice versa. Scylla was a horrible sea monster with six long necks equipped with grisly heads, each of which contained three rows of sharp teeth. Her body consisted of twelve tentacle-like legs and a cat's tail and with four to six dog-heads ringing her waist. It is a shame, but Kratos kills it within the beginning of the game.

Odysseus and his crew met with the beast in the Odyssey.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta

In God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Scylla is a new beast that Kratos meets on his journey to Atlantis. She is summoned by Poseidon to stop Kratos from making it to Atlantis. This meeting of the creature is very similar to that of the Hydra in God of War. She's most likely also the guardian of Atlantis. Scylla destroys ships with her tentacles and arms, while also releasing small offspring to attack their prey.

Trivia

  • Scylla seems to show some similarities to the Monster from the 2008 film "Cloverfield", but it could be just coincidence.
  • Just like inGod of War: Chains of Olympus, during Kratos' first confrontation with Scylla, he cuts out her left eye with blood pouring down her face resembling Kratos' tatoo. This also happened with Kratos' first fight with the basilisk.
