Poseidons Rage

"This beast, this Hydra, it has terrorized my seas for far too long. But you will need my assistance. You will need the power of the Gods." - Poseidon

In the God of War series

Poseidon's Rage is one of the magic attacks Kratos acquires in God of War. Kratos receives Poseidon's Rage in the Aegean Sea from the god Poseidon himself, to help fight the Hydra. The magic surrounds Kratos with a circle of electricity, and summons lightning bolts from the sky to strike down his enemies. By repeatedly pushing the circle button, the attack can build more damage. One can level it up to increase its damage and attack radius.

Kratos still has this ability during the first part of God of War II (albeit in a weaker form), before losing his godly powers to Zeus' scheme. A player can also use the Urn of Poseidon, one of the Urns of Power, during Bonus Play to replace Cronos' Rage with Poseidon's Rage. Poseidon's Rage gets taken away by Ares in the first God of War, but is given back along with the rest of his magic by Athena. However, Poseidon's Rage is entirely absent from God of War: Ghost of Sparta, even though it takes place before the events of God of War II.

Trivia

  • In Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, Kratos can use Poseidon's Rage as one of his attacks.
  • In the first God of War game, Poseidon's Rage can be used to infinitely jump, accompanied by a combination of moves. This move was not intentionally inserted by programmers, and is considered a glitch.
  • Using the above glitch in the room Medusa is fought in will allow Kratos to access the top of a series of boxes and walk through the wall of the chamber, granting him infinite magic.
  • Poseidon's Rage appears slightly different in God of War II than it does in the first game. Kratos' arms are outstretched instead of in a regular position, and the color of the lightning is also a little bit darker.
