Pillar of the World

The Pillar of the World.

The Pillar of the World is a gigantic pillar located in the Underworld which holds up the world.

In God of War: Chains of Olympus, the goddess Persephone develops a scheme in which she, with the aid of Atlas, will destroy the pillar, causing the entire world to fall into chaos. Kratos attempts to stop her, and the top of the pillar is where the two have their final battle. During the battle, Kratos also chains Atlas to the pillar with the Gauntlet of Zeus. After the battle is over, Persephone is destroyed, and Atlas is condemned to forever sit upon the pillar and hold the world on his shoulders. This is why you see Atlas in God of War II telling Kratos that he put him there, and that Kratos is a slave of the gods.
