The Ormr is a creature that appears in God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarök.

In God of War Series[]

According to Mimir, Ormrs was born from an ember that escaped Surtr's hammer as he worked his forge. The steward of Muspelheim used his bellows to breathe life into the ember, and its first act of existence was to steal and consume the precious metals the smith had been using to forge a weapon.

In the first game, Ormr (Loot Lizard) only encountered single creature appear in the Heart of the Mountain sub-location in Midgard.

In the sequel, Ormr appears much more frequently throughout most of the Realms.

When killed it will drop numerous resources (health, rage, enchantments, and upgrade materials). The lizard is hard to kill, as it will quickly burrow into the ground, and reappear somewhere nearby. Ormr can be killed by striking them from behind (or just outside their line of sight) with the Leviathan Axe, Draupnir Spear, and Atreus’ arrows.

Trivia[]

  • In God of War (2018), there was no entry for the Ormr in the game’s bestiary, leaving its identity unknown. As such, fans would begin to refer to them as “Loot Lizards”, and the nickname persisted even after their real name was revealed in God of War: Ragnarök.
  • The Ormr is similar to the Tatzelwurm, but it will not attack Kratos, and will dig into the ground if approached.
    • Oddly, the appearance of Ormr's drawing/sketches are Tatzelwurm from Codex in God of War Ragnarök.
