Niðavellir is a city in Svartalfheim in God of War Ragnarök. Mimir states that the Aesir can't tell the difference between the Dwarves and the Dark Elves of Alfheim, thus being the ones that named the Dwarf Realm "Svartalfheim", which means "Land of the Dark Elves". The name the Dwarves call their home realm, "Niðavellir", means "Dark Fields".

General Information[]

Niðavellir is one of the larger cities of the dwarven people, it is a region you will pass through during the main story in search of a man who can lead you to your objective. It contains rivers at both ends, connecting the wetlands to the larger Bay of Bounty. Despite being a relatively safe haven, some Wretches have begun to plague the nearby sewer, and later on in the story, some of the Aesir will arrive to stalk the streets waiting for your return. On your first trip through the town, you'll pick up a side quest - In Service of Asgard - which can be completed at the mining rigs in the Bay of Bounty to the north. Upon your return to the realm later in the game, you'll pick up an additional side quest here - The Spirit of Rebellion - which will send you to one of the other beaches in the bay. There's also a third Favor you can begin here after completing the game.

Kvasir’s Poems 2 - Large Society Ground Orb, The Performance[]

  • Requires: Sonic Arrows

This Artifact can be spotted at the Niðavellir docks as soon as you arrive on the boat, on a larger dock close to where Kratos can dock the boat. The dock is blocked by a green Soundstone wall, which can be imploded with Sonic Arrows. If you don't have Sonic Arrows yet, talk to Sindri at the marketplace where the Odin statue is. Once you destroy the green wall, the Artifact will be on a crate directly under a blue-roofed shelter.

Niðavellir - Odin’s Raven 1[]

Located in the marketplace with the giant statue of Odin, where you first encounter Sindri in Svartalfheim. In the North-East side of the marketplace will be a building with a water wheel placed between two rooftops: the Raven will be on top of the right-hand rooftop with the blue awning underneath it.

Niðavellir - Lore 1 - Shopping List[]

  • Type: Scroll

This Artifact can be found in the Niðavellir marketplace, the area with the large statue of Odin where you first meet Sindri in this realm. Check on the ground at the base of the statue; it'll be close to Sindri's workshop and between two awnings.

Things Left Behind 2 - Griep’s Firebomb[]

  • Location: Svartalfheim - Niðavellir

This Artifact can be found in the second, Northern half of Niðavellir, which you get to by crawling through a sewer passage next to Sindri's shop in the market square. Once you emerge, look left to spot a blue awning above a doorway into a fire-lit hallway, blocked by some wooden objects. Smash them, head through the hallway, then head down the ramp at the end to find the Artifact directly ahead in the alleyway.

Berserker Gravestone 1 - Hardrefill the Callous[]

  • Prerequisite: Progress The Word of Fate main quest

The first Berserker Gravestone you have to pass by, like many you won't be able to do anything here until you pick up the Inert Hilt of Skofnung during The Word of Fate main quest. Once you have it, return to this Gravestone at the bottom of the train up to The Forge.

Niðavellir - Legendary Chest 1[]

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
  • Contains: Blades Attachment - Hardened War Handles

The Legendary Chest in Niðavellir is visible from your first visit, however you cannot actually reach it until much later in the game. You'll know when you return to Svartalfheim and have picked up a new piece of equipment. Once you've acquired it, return to Niðavellir and go to the end of the sewer passage you originally used to get from the marketplace with the Odin statue to the Eastern side of town. Face North, then run North up the main road to a square with a well in the middle. Here, check the back-right corner for a Wind Vent you can throw your new equipment into. Use it to climb to the upper area: the Legendary Chest will be here on your left.

Niðavellir - Lore 2 - Mining Glory[]

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
  • Type: Treasure Map

The second piece of Lore in Niðavellir is in the same spot as the Legendary Chest, which means you cannot access it until you complete the Forging Destiny main quest later in the game. Once you've done this, get to the Legendary Chest using the instructions above: the Lore will be to the right of it. Collecting this will unlock the Mining Glory Buried Treasure deep in The Applecore.
