Jötnar Shrines are wooden triptychs built by the Jötnar depicting the stories and prophecies of many notable Giants. These Shrines were left in different places, sometimes related to their story, throughout most of the Nine Realms. However, through the use of giant magic, they were able to contain the real stories within some of the shrines in which they can be found in the Utengard.

Thrym's Shrine[]

Týr's Shrine[]

Surtr's Shrine[]

Bergelmir's Shrine[]

Starkaðr's Shrine[]

Loki's Shrine[]

The Shrine dedicated to Loki is located on top of the Giant's Fingers and in Angrboda's Treehouse in Jötunheim. Loki's shrines are the only ones carved in mural instead of wood.

Faye destroyed the last triptych of Loki's shrine, not wanting her husband and son to know their destinies.

Laufey and Fárbauti's Shrine[]

The Shrine dedicated to Loki's parents, Laufey and Fárbauti is located on top of the mountain behind Asgard's tower in the Lake of Nine. This is the only shrine that shares two shrines.

Laufey's shrine shows Faye travelling from Jötunheim to Midgard. She would later destroy the last triptych of Loki's shrine before her cremation, which started her husband and son's journey to spread her ashes.

Fárbauti's shrine shows Kratos travelling from a ruined Greece to Midgard. He would later journey with his son to spread Faye's ashes before dying by Thor's hand and mourned by his son. As Kratos was able to avoid his death prophecy by opening his heart made Angrboda to paint a new prophecy over his old one with Kratos surviving and becoming a beloved god, worshipped by mortals as Fárbauti.

Unknown Shrine[]

Angrboda has an additional shrine at her treehouse located in Jötunheim which according to her is not ready to be shown yet.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being an Aesir god, Týr still received a Shrine in his honour for his great friendship and alliance with the Jötunn-kind.
    • At seeing Týr's Shrine, Mimir wondered if the Jötnar made a Shrine about him, since Týr and Mimir were the only Gods the Jötnar gifted their special sight to.
    • Kratos also received a Shrine to him, despite being a Greek God.
