Greek Mythology
In Greek mythology, Iapetus (/aɪˈæpɪtəs/) (also Japetus (Ancient Greek: Ἰαπετός Iapetos)) was a Titan, the son of Uranus and Gaia and father of Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Menoetius. He was also called the father of Buphagus and Anchiale in other sources.
Iapetus has been equated with Japheth (יֶפֶת) the son of Noah as the progenitor of mankind based on the similarity of their names and the tradition. Iapetus was linked to Japheth by 17th-century theologian Matthew Poole, Robert Graves, and John Pairman Brown.
God of War Series
God of War II
He helped Cronos to overthrow their father. He aided the Titans against Zeus, but they failed and were defeated, Zeus imprisoned him along with his siblings were banished to Tartarus. Typhon mentions him and several other Titans who were banished to Tartarus. When Kratos freed the Titans, he did not aid them in the second Titanomachy.
Powers & Abilities
- Immortality: As a Titan, he is immortal. Only a sufficiently powerful weapon or an extremely powerful being can kill him.
Trivia
- When Kratos enters Tartarus, Iapetus isn't seen anywhere and he did not aid the Titans in the second Titanomachy.
