Norse Tradition[]
In Hrólfr Kraki's saga, Hvítserkr inn hvati was one of the twelve berserkers who served King Hrólf Kraki.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Hvítserkr was a warrior in the Midgardian kingdom of Lejre who served under Hrólf Kraki, along with eleven fellow berserkers. However, according to Mimir, he was noted for being a necromancer, in which he would summon the dead to his own will through magic, which violates the natural order. Hvítserkr participated in Hrólf's seizure of the crown, where he earned the epithet "the Bold". Upon his death, Hvítserkr's spirit went onto inhabit the Hill of Skofnung. His ability to summon the dead seems to have reversed overtime as he gained the ability to summon living creatures instead of undead ones.
God of War Ragnarok[]
Kratos defeated Hvítserkr's spirit and channeled his powers through Skofnung.
Description[]
"According to Mimir, Hvítserkr was, in his life, a powerful Necromancer — violating the natural order to summon the dead to his will. In death, it seems this ability inverted, allowing him to summon living creatures as his minions. Only those corrupted by Seiðr are susceptible to this, but it was prove dangerous. We are well rid of this Berserker."
Quotes[]
- "The King will lead us to glory!"
- "Don't hold back!"
- "You're done."
Trivia[]
- Hvítserkr's helm design is a direct reference to Hecate, a Greek goddess who has two heads on each side of her own head and personifies magic, sorcery, and necromancy. Hvítserkr's ability to use and wield dark magic is also another direct reference.
