Hróðvitnir (Nordic: ᚼᚱᚢᚦᚠᛁᛏᚾᛁᛦ) was a wolf-giant.
Norse Mythology[]
In Norse mythology, Hróðvitnir was another name for Fenrir and meant "fame-wolf".
God of War (2018)[]
Although not seen by Kratos and Atreus on their journey, Hróðvitnir is confirmed to exist as he is alluded to multiple times in triptychs and dialogue. In particular, Mimir mentions him in one of his tales and refers to him as a great nemesis of the Aesir gods.
Hróðvitnir was one of the Jötnar, being a wolf-giant, and the father of Sköll and Hati. He was a dedicated enemy of the Aesir and Odin kidnapped his children, keeping them as hostages so he would stop fighting them.
Trivia[]
- While Hróðvitnir is another name for Fenrir in Norse mythology, in the God of War series they are clearly two separate beings as his conflict with the Aesir occurred long before the current events of the game, Until the sequel, it is confirmed the Hróðvitnir is actually called by Aesir and none other than Garm which chained in Helheim in other to prevent he escaped. Coincidence, when Atreus stab his knife with imbued soul of Fenrir on Garm's head possessing into Fenrir, technically became a wolf-giant and the father of Sköll and Hati.
