Hippolyta She is a queen of the Amazons and wife of the Athenian king Theseus.
Greek Mythology[]
In Greek mythology, Hippolyta, or Hippolyte (/hɪˈpɒlɪtə/; Greek: Ἱππολύτη Hippolytē), was a daughter of Ares and Otrera, queen of the Amazons, and a sister of Antiope and Melanippe. She wore her father Ares' zoster, the Greek word found in the Iliad and elsewhere meaning "war belt". Some English translations prefer "girdle". Hippolyta figures prominently in the myths of both Heracles and Theseus. The myths about her are so varied it is thought that they may be about different women. The name Hippolyta translates as "she who unleashes the horses", deriving from two Greek roots meaning "horse" and "let loose".
In God of War Series[]
Although it has not appeared in any game of the Greek saga, it is mentioned by Mimir in God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, when he tells of his past, when he said that his teacher Oberon heard that an Athenian king (Theseus) conquered Hippolyta, calling her as "Warrior Queen"
Powers and Abilities[]
Being queen of the Amazons, warrior women, it is very possible that Hippolyta is an expert in combat
Trivia[]
- One of the 12 labors of Hercules was to steal Hippolyta's Belt. It is unknown if this theft of said belt occurred in the God of War saga.
