Helio's head

Kratos using the beam

Helios beam is a light power that is coming from the decapitated head of Helios.

God of War III

Helios Beam is believed to be the first ever magic acquired in God of War III. It is acquired by shooting Helios when he is fighting Perses, defeating the enemies with the Cyclops by riding it then ripping off the head of Helios which was all in a city called Olympia. The beam holds the power to reveal secrets, such as a hidden door. When the beam shines on enemies, it can also give them a temporary blindness. Plus, the item is very useful in dark areas. He uses it to blind Cronos.

Notes

Kratos used his enemies' heads as weapons before. The ones of Medusa and Euryale. If the Helios Head is indeed the only "head beam" style weapon/item in the game, it is possible that he will have the ability to upgrade it and unlock new combat/puzzle solving abilities for it. However, it is also possible that the final Gorgon sister will appear in GoW3, and if thats the case, it is likely that Kratos will decapitate her and use her various Gorgon Stare abilities for his "head beam" weapon, making the Helios Beam more of a tool than a weapon, similar to the Icarus Wings and Golden Fleece. In the demo the magic bar is empty but Kratos can still use the head thus leading to support the theory. Note that this is all speculation.

It is very sure Kratos will use it to discover secret chests.
