Omega (God of War 2018)

This article contains lore based on real-life sources from Norse mythology as introduced from the God of War Norse era.

Gulons are massive feline-like canine creatures that appear as common enemies in Vanaheim.

Norse Mythology[]

The Gulon is a creature in Scandinavian legend, also known as a "Jerff" in Northern Sweden and "Vielfraß" in Germany. It resembles a confusing mixture of various animals and is usually described as being the size and shape of a dog, with some cat-like features such as the head, ears, and claws. It also supposedly has a thick coat of brown shaggy fur and a tail that resembles a fox tail.

The Gulon is an infamous symbol of gluttony because of its strange eating habits. It will usually make a kill and then gorge itself until it is swollen and could not eat anymore, at which it will find two trees and squeeze itself in between them, pushing the meat through its own body before returning to the kill and so repeating the process.

God of War Ragnarök[]

Gulons are usually found in different parts of Vanaheim, while some of them are found in the outskirts of Asgard, Midgard, and Svartalfheim.

There are also the two peaceful Gulons that live in Alfheim, where they act like sled-dogs, in which they can pull the sled that Kratos and Atreus/Freya can ride on to travel across the desert dunes of Alfheim.

Appearance[]

Gulons are unique creatures that have a mixture of various animal features like the body shape of the dog with feather-like fur, and a tail of a fox. The head of the Gulon has some cat-like features such as slit-eyes, the beak of a bird, and a feathered mane.

Another variant of the Gulon in Alfheim is a feline-like animal with purple skin, with a scaly tail of a reptile.

Types of Gulon[]

  • Normal Gulon - they are feral of nature and hunt in packs.
  • Cursed Gulon - this variant of gulon is more vicious and has a poisonous bite, they can also spit poison from their mouth and even explode after death.

Trivia[]

  • Gulons' moveset are similar to the predecessor like Wolves.
  • According to Freya, Freyr loved to breed Gulon pups in Vanaheim and she wondered whether the two Gulons pulling the sled are descendants of the creatures that Freyr brought to Alfheim long ago.
  • While riding the Gulon led-sled, Mimir will point out that they could bring the Gulon back to Vanaheim, or Midgard to keep Speki and Svanna company, but Freya says that it would be cruel as the two Gulons have grown accustomed to Alfheim. Whether or not the two species can co-exist is unknown.
