Fjöturlund was a Kingdom mentioned in God of War Ragnarök located in Midgard, ruled by King Högni. Fjöturlund is part of The Derelict Outpost and The Lost Treasury.
Norse Mythology[]
Not much is known about Fjöturlund. Some scholars believe the mysterious location Fjöturlund, “Fetter-grove,” of Helgakvida Hundingsbana II are related. In Norse mythology. It is however briefly mentioned in the tale of Sigrún, Helgi and Dagr. In that particular story it mentions Dagr seeking out King Helgi so he can avenge the killings of his Kingdom and family. He later finds King Helgi in a grove called Fjöturlund, which means "grove of chains". Tacitus speaks of such a grove as sacred to the Germanic Semnon tribe: it was impossible to enter there without shackles. In this sacred grove, Dagr pierced King Helgi with a spear that was given to him by the war God Odin. After killing King Helgi, his body was sacrificed to Odin.
God of War Ragnarök[]
Fjöturlund was a Midgardian kingdom ruled by King Högni and his unnamed wife, there they raised their daughter Princess Sigrún and their son Prince Dagr. From what can be gathered the King was caring and fair. Until one day in his daughters youth, a king named Helgi offered his hand to her in marriage. She wished to marry this King as she fell in love with him. However, King Högni, who knew of Helgi's true nature, refused to let him marry his daughter. Completely enraged at the King's decision, Helgi angrily responded by invading Fjöturlund in an attempt to claim Sigrún by force. On the mad king's orders, his soldiers sacked the kingdom and killed anyone who would dare oppose Helgi's supposed union. During the destruction and devastation, most of Sigrún's family, including her parents, were killed leaving only her brother Prince Dagr.
King Helgi's chaos through Fjöturlund left it in ruins, having killed most if not all of their people. Dagr later fought and killed the mad king for destroying his land, people and family. Sigrún, who loved the mad king, and not knowing that he had massacred her family, proceeded to put a curse on Dagr. Dagr is assumed to be dead though this isn't necessarily confirmed. Sigrún bitterly and immediately regrets cursing her own brother, and in an attempt to seek redemption, she immediately left what was left of her kingdom and joined the Valkyries so she may atone for her actions.
With no one to rebuild nor repair the kingdom from its destroyed and inhabitable state, it simply ceased to exist or thrive. Thus leaving it as a painful reminder of what transpired those years ago.
