This article contains lore based on real-life sources of the Greek mythology as introduced from the God of War Greek era.
Eros (Greek: Ἔρως) is the Primordial entity of Love and Desire and one of the first beings born out of Chaos.
Greek Mythology
In Greek mythology, Eros (/ˈɪərɒs/ or US /ˈɛrɒs/, /ˈɛroʊs/; Greek: Ἔρως, "Desire") was the Protogenos (primordial deity) of love, desire, and procreation who emerged self-formed at the beginning of time along with his siblings. He was the driving force behind the generation of new life in the early cosmos. The Orphics knew him as Phanes, a primal being hatched from the world egg at creation. He was also equivalent to Thesis, "Creation," and Physis, "Nature."
His equivalent in Roman mythology was Cupid ("Desire"). Some myths make him a primordial god, while in other myths, he is the son of Ares and Aphrodite.
God of War: Ascension
Although Eros does not appear in the game, he is mentioned by one of the topless women Kratos encounters in an illusion cast by Tisphone. Delighted by the presence of Kratos, the woman exclaims, "Glory to Eros, he has given us a champion".
Abilities
Eros presumably possesses the standard powers of a god, though, as a Primordial deity born out of Chaos, Eros is very powerful.
- Amokinesis: As the God of Love and desire, Eros has absolute control and divine authority over love, lust, and desire, far superior to that of Aphrodite's.
Trivia
- "Erotic" comes from Eros. Hence, Eros is the god of erotic desires.
- His Roman equivalent, Cupid, is also called "Amor" which is Latin for Love.
