Greek Mythology[]

In the Greek Mythology, Eos was a Titan who is the Goddess of Dawn. She and her siblings Helios (the Sun) and Selene (the Moon) were numbered amongst the second-generation Titan Gods. Eos rose into the sky from the river Okeanos (Oceanus) at the start of each day, and with her rays of light dispersed the mists of night.

She was depicted either driving a chariot drawn by winged horses or borne aloft on her own wings.

Eos had an unquenchable desire for handsome young men, some say as the result of a curse laid upon her by the Goddess Aphrodite. Her lovers included Orion, Phaethon, Kephalos (Cephalus) and Tithonos (Tithonus), three of which she ravished away to distant lands. The Trojan prince Tithonos became her official consort. When the Goddess petitioned Zeus for his immortality, she neglected also to request eternal youth. In time, he shriveled up by old age and transformed into a grasshopper.

Eos was closely identified with Hemera, the Primordial Goddess of Day. In some myths—such as the tales of Orion and Kephalos—Eos stood virtually as a non-virginal substitute for Artemis.

In the God of War series[]

God of War: Chains of Olympus[]

Barely holding on after her brother's disappearance which caused Morpheus to take over the Earth and caused everyone to fall asleep, Eos asked Kratos to find Helios and told him to find the Sun Shield. Kratos then spoke with Eos face-to-face in the Caves of Olympus, where she advised him to seek out the Primordial Fire to help him in his quest. It is revealed she is very dependent on her brother's powers, to the point that after the sun disappeared, she slowly started to lose all her powers.

She promised Kratos that Helios would be grateful and implore Zeus, the King of the Gods to rid Kratos of his cursed visions that plague his mind, but that turned out to be an empty promise.

God of War III[]

She is mentioned and there is a section that is named after her, the Path of Eos. This is the passageway within Mount Olympus that is revealed through the use of Helios' head, leading to the Chain of Balance.

Her ultimate fate is unknown, as it remains uncertain if she survived the disappearance of the sun caused by her brother Helios' death.

Appearance[]

Eos resembles the appearance of that of a beautiful young woman. She is red-headed, fair and slender. The only clothing she wears on her upper body is a piece of white scarf covering her shoulders, the left side of her neck and the back of her head partially. She leaves the rest of her upper bodies unclothed, sensually baring her full, round breasts. Being the Goddess of Dawn, her body emits a golden glow. Her hair and ears are adorned with a golden tikka and an earrings respectively, while her breasts are decorated by a series of golden ornaments dangling from her scarf. She wears a large, white skirt with grey hems.

Powers and Abilities[]

Eos is a powerful celestial deity, the daughter of the elder solar Titan Hyperion. She shared some of her powers with her brother Helios. Eos possessed all of the standard abilities of a Goddess, including immortality, divinity, enhanced physical abilities, and great endurance. She is more powerful compared to other Titans also given her status as a Olympian Goddess.

  • Immortality: As a Goddess, she is immortal, meaning that she is immune to disease and couldn't age.
  • Acausality: The laws of time and space work differently for the Greek deities.
  • Beauty Embodiment: Eos is a beautiful woman unlike the other Titans.
  • Light Manipulation: Eos, being the Goddess of Dawn, she naturally has control over different aspects of the sun, such as fire or more specifically sunlight as she shares some her powers with her brother Helios.
  • Pyrokinesis: She is capable of manipulating the sunlight according to her will. Her and her brothers light and fire have a severe effect on chtonic daimons and other dark creatures of the Underworld.
  • Superhuman Durability: As a Goddess and Titan, she can stand on her own against anyone who tries to harm her and do massive damage.
  • Superhuman Strength: She have tremendous superhuman strength due her being both a Goddess and a Titan.
  • Object Possession: Like her fellow gods such as Athena, she can project her voice into statues of herself and speak with Kratos from a distance.
  • Magical Perceptions: She can sense anyone's presence as she was able to sense Kratos.

Trivia[]

  • Eos is the only other Goddess in the series to speak to Kratos by projecting herself through a statue, the first being Athena.
  • Her statement that the Power of the Sun cannot be trusted in the hands of a Titan is very ironic, considering how she and her brother themselves are second-generation Titans just like Atlas himself.
    • It also shows how far both of them have disassociated themselves from the Titans.
