Enchantments (2018)

Enchantments are boosters which grant specific bonuses to Kratos during combat, in God of War (2018). Kratos can collect Enchantments in a myriad of ways and slot them into his Armor or Talismans, to receive the bonuses they grant him.

Randomly-Generated Enchantments

Crests, Relics, Sigils, Signs and Symbols

Most of the Enchantments that Kratos can collect on his journey are randomly generated, and can typically be found by killing enemies, looting Nornir or Language Cipher Chests, or purchased at Brok and Sindri's shops. To provide a hint as to what these enchantments do, they normally have their names show up in the following format when collected:

Enchantment Type of Trait

The Enchantment Type denotes whether the enchantment has a perk, and if so, what that perk is. The Trait indicates which stats the enchantment boosts (2 max). Below are two tables containing Enchantment Types and Traits, to help understand what a randomly generated enchantment will do, when slotted into equipment.

Perfect and Flawless Enchantments of the Realm

Kratos also has the chance to come across Perfect or Flawless Enchantments of the Realm. These enchantments are always Level 7 and of Epic Rarity. They only boost one stat each by a large amount, and their naming makes it difficult to discern their properties, unlike most random enchantments.

However, these enchantments always sport a perk boosting his offensive or defensive capabilities. A list of the possible perks has been created in the table below.

Raging Fury	Increases the rate at which Rage is gained by 10% (stacks up to 30% max).
Raging Control	Reduces the Rage cost of using attacks while in Spartan Rage by 15% (stacks up to 45% max).
Fortification	Holding L1 for several seconds grants Fortification, causing an explosive knockback after the next successful block.
Sprinter's Unstoppable Aura	Sprinting for 3 seconds grants Unstoppable Aura, preventing interruption from enemy attacks.
Blessing of Swiftness	Slightly increase max sprinting speed.
Speedy Evasion	Gain a burst of speed and travel an increased distance when evading.
Frost Attack Resistance	Increases resistance to FROST attacks by 50% (stacks up to 85% max).
Fire Attack Resistance	Increases resistance to BURN damage by 50% (stacks up to 85% max).
Poison Resistance	Increases resistance to POISON by 50% (stacks up to 85% max).

Semi-Random Enchantments

On their travels, Kratos and Atreus can come across black-and-purple chests locked by masks. Some of these chests contain pieces of Language Cipher discs. When fully reassembled, Atreus can learn the languages of Muspelheim and Niflheim, and unlock the travel runes for those realms.

These realms unlock various pieces of equipment for crafting and collection, as well new materials to collect and use for crafting or upgrades.

Frozen and Fiery Shards

Upon venturing to the Realm of Fire, Kratos and Atreus can fight their way through a gauntlet of combat challenges, and reap special rewards, depending on how well they perform. One of the most basic crafting materials they can find in Muspelheim are Smoldering Embers, which can be used to craft Frozen and Fiery Shards, special enchantments which boost a selection of Kratos' Runic Attacks, when slotted into Armor or Talismans.

These enchantments are typically Level 6, of Legendary Rarity, boost up to two stats by random amounts, and can be crafted for 12 Smoldering Embers. Their New Game+ counterparts are typically at Level 8, of Perfect Rarity, and additionally cost 3 Skap Slag.

Perfect Artefacts of the Blight

Upon venturing to the Realm of Fog, much of the region that Kratos and Atreus visit is blanketed in a poisonous mist, created by Ivaldi, in an attempt to challenge Odin gone awry, to say the very least. To survive in such an environment, Kratos and Atreus fight through and gather materials in Ivaldi's Workshop, to craft gear which helps them do just that.

On occasion, Kratos can acquire enchantments exclusive to the realm, known as "Perfect Artefacts of the Blight", from Nornir Chests and enemies in the workshop. These enchantments come with perks that restore his oxygen, by meeting specific combat criteria.

These enchantments boost up to two stats by random amounts, and are of Legendary Rarity at Level 6. Their New Game+ counterparts are of Epic Rarity at Level 7. The Legendary versions may also be crafted for 750 Mist Echoes each, the most basic material in the workshop.
