Kratos finding a gate of Crete.

The Island of Crete was home to a temple of Athena, and led to the Mounts of Aroania.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta

After Kratos destroyed Atlantis, he moved forward, arriving on the Island of Crete. As he made his way through the broken island, he found a statue of the goddess Athena. After attempting to converse with Athena, he destroyed the statue in rage, after proclaiming the Gods lied to him. Traversing destroyed areas, Kratos eventually found the Key of Crete, using it to open various gates and continue onwards. After opening one particular gate, he came across the Mounts of Aroania.
