The fog
The Black Fog of Morpheus was a dark cloud created by the God of Dreams, Morpheus.
Description[]
Based upon the shouting of nearby humans, the fog had a life of its own. When the sun fell from the sky, the fog began to cover the land and made the Gods slumber. From the fog came the minions of Morpheus, such as the Morpheus Beasts, Banshees, and Shades, all of which were both made up of and could attack with the very fog they came from. The fog itself sparked as if filled with electricity, damaging all those who entered it, including Kratos who fell into a deep dream-filled slumber, until the Fire Steeds brought him into the Underworld, where the Fog could not enter due to the sunlight of Helios filling the realm. On the mortal plane above, the Fog could be held at bay with fire, allowing safe passage through it. However, without the return of the Sun the Black Fog would have eventually covered all of creation.
After the Sun was returned to the sky and Helios was rescued, the Fog vanished and Morpheus himself was forced to retreat into the shadows, probably within his dream realm, where the Black Fog most likely originates from.
