In God of War Ragnarök[]

The Berserkers become available to fight upon obtaining the Inert Hilt of Skofnung.

Very little is known about the Berserkers' history due to Mimir's reluctance to recount his history with them. Eventually, Mimir tells Kratos that the Berserkers were responsible for laying waste to Lejre, a forgotten kingdom ruled by King Aldis. While Mimir served as an advisor to King Aldis, he vouched for Hrólf Kraki and his champions.

At some point after, Kraki and his Berserkers betrayed and deposed Aldis, taking over Lejre. Each Berserker would eventually meet their demise, their souls being left behind in gravestones across the realms, accessible only with the Hilt of Skofnung. Some of these souls retained their ability to use magic, capable of inflicting damage with various elements such as fire, lightning, or Bifröst.
