Kratos takes down a Banshee

Mythology

The Banshee was a creature from Irish mythology. It is seen as an omen of death, and is also known for having the ability to deliver a frightening inhuman scream that could harm and even kill humans.

In God of War: Chains of Olympus

In God of War: Chains of Olympus Banshees appear as beautiful, yet decaying, women whose lower bodies have been replaced by brown serpent tails. They have desiccated stomachs, ornate golden headdresses, and long white hair tied into braids. They move very quickly, and can attack Kratos by scratching him with their claws, swiping at him with their tails or delivering a powerful scream which can momentarily stun Kratos. After weakening the Banshee, Kratos can kill it by punching it, stomping her head into the ground, and finally decapitating her.

The Banshees seem to be a hybrid of Gorgons and Sirens, with the basic appearance of a Gorgon, but the abilities of a Siren.
