God of War Wiki

Bödvar the Fierce is one of the twelve Berserkers that can be fought as an optional boss in God of War Ragnarök. Bödvar along with Starólfr the Troublesome can be found in Svartalfheim, in the region between the Jarnsmida Pitmines and Applecore.

Norse Tradition[]

Bödvar Bjarki (Old Norse: Bǫðvarr Bjarki), meaning 'Warlike Little-Bear', is a Nordic hero that appears in the tales of Hrólfr Kraki in the Hrólfs saga Kraka.

In the aforementioned saga, Bödvar Bjarki was one of the twelve berserkers who served King Hrólf Kraki. He is sometimes theorized to be Beowulf himself.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Bödvar was a warrior in the Midgardian kingdom of Lejre who served under Hrólf Kraki, along with eleven fellow berserkers. He participated in Hrólf's seizure of the crown, where he earned the epithet "the Fierce". Upon his death, Bödvar's spirit went onto inhabit the Hilt of Skofnung.

God of War Ragnarok[]

Kratos defeated Bödvar's spirit along with his lover Starólfr the Troublesome and channeled their powers through Skofnung.

Description[]

"I have been told this Bödvar had "all the brains of a hammer." If this is true, it is a wonder King Hrólf's company were able to hold the reputation Mimir claims they did. A good warrior must be as sound in mind as they are in body. Still, I knew many companies in Greece who applied strength and brutality over strategy. Brutality alone never won a war."
