Ares 2

Ares with his sword in Concept Art for God of War.

Ares' Sword was the weapon that was used by the fallen God of War, Ares.

God of War

Ares used that sword in the final battle with Kratos, but he underestimated the Ghost of Sparta and was impaled through the chest with the Blade of the Gods. The sword had a slightly larger role in the God of War Novel, as it was used to kill the God instead of the Blade of the Gods, which was never mentioned. That would have left a plot hole, as Atropos attempted to destroy the Blade in order to change Kratos' fate in God of War II.
