God of War Wiki

Ancient Japan, or simply Japan, is a civilization that is part of the East. It is the home of the Shinto Gods.

Although it has not yet appeared in any game in the God of War franchise, this land has been mentioned and referenced visually a few times, and the Norse God Týr is known to have traveled there.[1]

Description[]

In God of War series[]

Past[]

At some point in the past, Týr traveled to Japan and other parts of The East for unknown reasons, possibly for diplomacy and to foster peace, but at the end of his journey and returning to the Norse lands, Týr gained knowledge of that Land and also took various treasures with him.[1]

God of War (2018)[]

When Kratos and Atreus are entering the Temple of Týr, while Mimir tells them about the history of Týr, a drawing on a wall can be seen where the god is shown in Greece but also other lands such as Ancient Egypt, the Mayan Empire, and Ancient Japan, recognizable by two figures standing next to a torii gate with the kanji for Kami on it. In the treasure vault is a stone inscribed with kanji, the Japanese script, and also in the lost triptych panel of Týr, a Japanese tomoe is written.[1]

God of War Ragnarök[]

One of the three languages written on the Mask of Creation is an ancient dialect of the kanji alphabet.

God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla[]

Týr Katana

Týr's katana.

While having one last spar with Kratos in Valhalla, Týr conjures a nodachi he has gotten from Japan, and uses a foreign Magic technique which allows him to create a false copy of himself.
