In Greek mythology, Aegeus (/ˈɛdʒˌjuːs/; Ancient Greek: Αἰγεύς, romanized: Aigeús) was an archaic figure in the founding myth of Athens. The "goat-man" who gave his name to the Aegean Sea was, next to Poseidon, the father of Theseus, the founder of Athenian institutions and one of the kings of Athens.

Theseus mentions to Kratos that he wants to revive Aegeus, because he committed suicide he though that he was dead. Theseus named the Aegean sea after him.

Trivia 

  • In some sources he was exiled from Athens by the sons of Metion when they took over the throne.
